Fairfield is a neighborhood in Liverpool, England. It's located in the county of Merseyside. This area is found between Tuebrook and Kensington, and it reaches all the way to Old Swan.
Fairfield has many different kinds of homes. You can see traditional red-brick houses and larger Victorian-style villas. There's also the special 300-year-old Georgian Fairfield Crescent, which is near the equally old Prospect Vale street.
The area is also home to Newsham Park, a Victorian park. A group called "Friends of Newsham Park" works with the city council to make the park better. They often talk about improvements, like building new facilities.
Recently, a new shopping area opened on Prescot Road. This has brought stores like Iceland and other shops to the neighborhood. It has helped improve this part of Fairfield.
There's also a community fire station on Beech Street. It opened in 2010. The Duchess of Gloucester officially opened it. Even though it's just inside Fairfield, it's called "Kensington" Fire Station. Fairfield and Kensington work together as a single area, or ward, for the Liverpool City Council.
Fairfield is mostly a place where people live. However, there are also a few roads with businesses and factories.
What's in a Name?
The name Fairfield has an interesting history. It comes from very old English words.
The word Fairfield means "land where pigs used to graze." It comes from the Old English word fōr, which means "swine" (or pig), and feld, meaning "field" or "pasture."
The name was first written down as Fornefeled in the year 1129.
