Fatih Akin (born August 25, 1973) is a talented film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is from both Germany and Turkey. Fatih Akin has won many important awards for his movies.
Some of his big wins include the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. He won this for his film Head-On in 2004. He also won Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival for The Edge of Heaven in 2007. In 2017, his film In the Fade won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Since 2004, Fatih Akin has been married to Monique Obermüller. She is an actress from Germany and Mexico. They live in Hamburg-Altona, which is near where Fatih grew up. They have two children together.
Fatih Akin's Film Career
Fatih Akin started directing full-length films in 1998. His first movie was Short Sharp Shock. This film won him the "Bronze Leopard" award in Switzerland. He also won the "Pierrot" award for Best New Director in Germany that same year.
He continued to direct more movies. These included In July in 2000 and Solino in 2002.
Major Film Successes
His fourth film, Head-On, was a huge success in 2004. It starred Sibel Kekilli. This movie won many awards, like the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. It also won "Best Film" and the "Audience Award" at the 2004 European Film Awards.
In 2005, Fatih Akin made a documentary film. It was called Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul. This film was about the music scene in Istanbul, Turkey. It featured many musicians like Ceza and Sezen Aksu.
In 2007, Akin's film The Edge of Heaven won the Best Screenplay award. This happened at the 60th Cannes Film Festival. The film tells a story about loss and forgiveness between German and Turkish cultures. Later that year, it also won the first LUX prize for European cinema from the European Parliament.
Fatih Akin directed the comedy film Soul Kitchen in 2009. He said he wanted to make a lighter film after his more serious movies like Head-On and The Edge of Heaven.
