Fatih Akin (Turkish: Fatih Akın, born August 25, 1973) is a famous German film director, writer, and producer. He has won many important awards for his movies. These include the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for his film Head-On (2004). He also won Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival for The Edge of Heaven (2007). His film In the Fade (2017) won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Early Life and Family
Fatih Akin was born in Hamburg, Germany. His parents were from Turkey. He has a brother named Cem Akin, who is an actor. Fatih Akin studied visual communications at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg. He finished his studies in 2000.
Since 2004, Akin has been married to Monique Obermüller. She is an actress from Germany and Mexico. They live in Hamburg-Altona, which is near where Fatih grew up. They have two children together.
Fatih Akin's Film Career
Fatih Akin started directing full-length films early in his career. His first movie was Short Sharp Shock in 1998. This film won him the "Bronze Leopard" award in Switzerland. He also received the "Pierrot" award for Best New Director in Germany that same year.

After his first film, Akin directed more movies. These included In July (2000) and Solino (2002). His fourth film, Head-On, was a huge success in 2004. It starred actress Sibel Kekilli. In 2017, Akin's film In the Fade competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. The lead actress, Diane Kruger, won the Best Actress award at Cannes. In the Fade was also chosen to represent Germany at the 90th Academy Awards. It later won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
