Early Life and Education
Ferit Melen was born in Van, which was part of the Ottoman Empire at the time. He finished high school in Bursa. After that, he went to Ankara University and studied finance. He graduated in 1931.
Career in Government
After university, Ferit Melen started working for the government right away. He even went to Paris, France, for a year to learn more about how the Ministry of Finance works. When he came back to Turkey, he became an inspector in the Ministry of Finance. By 1943, he was promoted to a very important role as a general director in the ministry.
Entering Politics
Ferit Melen first became a politician in 1950. He was elected as a representative (called a deputy) for Van Province. He was part of the Republican People's Party (CHP). After his first term, he didn't run for parliament in 1954. Instead, he worked as a chartered accountant until he retired in 1959. But he returned to politics in 1957, when he was elected as a deputy for Van again.
Key Government Roles
Ferit Melen held several important positions in the Turkish government:
- Minister of Finance: He served as the Minister of Finance twice. The first time was from 1962 to 1965, under Prime Minister İsmet İnönü.
