Fern Bay is a small town located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It's the most southern suburb in the Port Stephens Council area. You'll find it just north of Stockton. Stockton is a part of Newcastle that sits north of the Hunter River.
Fern Bay is also east of the northern part of the Hunter River, near the entrance to Fullerton Cove. To the east of Fern Bay is the big Tasman Sea. Even though Fern Bay is only about 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from Newcastle in a straight line, you have to cross the Hunter River to get there. This makes the road trip about 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the center of Newcastle.
The area is growing, with new houses being built. A large housing project is underway between Nelson Bay Road and Stockton Beach. This land used to be a place where the military practiced with weapons.
History of Fern Bay
The Worimi people are the original traditional owners of the land where Port Stephens is located. This means their ancestors have lived on and cared for this land for thousands of years.
