Feysville is an abandoned town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It is situated between Kalgoorlie and Kambalda just off the Goldfields Highway. This place was once a busy settlement. It became a town because of the discovery of gold many years ago.

Discovering Gold in Feysville

The story of Feysville began with gold. In 1895, a prospector named Dennis O'Callaghan found alluvial gold here. Alluvial gold is gold found in riverbeds or streams. This discovery started a big gold rush in the area. Many people came hoping to find their fortune.

How Feysville Became a Town

Another important person was Captain Henry Fey. He was a prospector and field manager. In 1896, he set up the Feysville mine. Because more people were arriving, the local community wanted a proper town. By 1897, they started asking for Feysville to be officially declared a town.

Life in Early Feysville

Life in Feysville was starting to get organized. In 1897, the town already had a debating club. This was a place where people could discuss ideas. There was also a cricket team, showing that people enjoyed sports. The first hotel was built in the town that same year. This was an important place for visitors and locals. Feysville was officially made a town on June 30, 1898. In 1898, the town had 97 people living there. Most of them were men (90 males) and there were 7 females.

What Happened to Feysville?

In 1919, land was put aside for a police station and a court house. These buildings were planned to help keep order in the town. However, neither the police station nor the court house were ever built. Over time, the gold ran out, and people moved away. Feysville slowly became an abandoned place, a ghost town.
