Fideris is a lovely village in Switzerland. It's located in the Prättigau region, which is part of the Graubünden canton. In the Romansh language, Fideris is called Fadrein. It's a small community, also known as a municipality.

A Look Back in Time
Fideris was first written about in the year 1370. Back then, it was known as Fidris.
About the Area
Fideris covers an area of about 25.36 square kilometers (9.79 square miles). A big part of this land, almost 59%, is used for farming. About 29% of the area is covered by forests. Buildings and roads take up about 3% of the land. The remaining 9% is unproductive land, like rocky areas.
The village of Fideris has a unique cross shape. It lies along the route that connects Prättigau and Schanfigg. Fideris includes two main parts: Strahlegg and Fideris-Au.
In 1994, a spiritual group from Wales bought a house near Fideris. In 2016, this house became a temple called Somaskanda Ashram. People from all over Europe visit this temple.
Who Lives Here?
Fideris has a population of about 600 people (as of December 2015). A small part of the population, about 7%, are people from other countries.
- Young People: About 19% of the people are children and teenagers (0–19 years old).
- Adults: Around 60% are adults (20–64 years old).
- Seniors: About 20% are seniors (over 64 years old).
Most people in Fideris live in single-family homes. Many of these homes were built a long time ago, before 1919.

Languages Spoken
Most people in Fideris speak German, about 96%. A smaller number speak Portuguese (1.2%) and Romansh (0.7%).
Long ago, in the Middle Ages, everyone in Fideris spoke Romansh. But in the 1300s, people called Walsers, who spoke German, moved into the valley. By the time of the Protestant Reformation, most people in the village spoke German.

Two special buildings in Fideris are considered important Swiss heritage sites. These are the Türmlihaus (Tower house) and House Nr. 41.
