Langwies was a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It was located in the Plessur district of the canton of Graubünden.
On January 1, 2013, Langwies joined with several other towns. These included Calfreisen, Castiel, Lüen, Molinis, Peist, and St. Peter-Pagig. Together, they all became part of the larger municipality of Arosa.

History of Langwies
Langwies is an old settlement with a long history. The first time anyone wrote about Langwies was in the year 1384. Back then, it was called die lang Wise. This name means "the long meadow" in German.
Geography of Langwies
Before it joined Arosa, Langwies covered an area of about 54.9 square kilometers (21.2 square miles). This is a pretty large area for a small town.
A big part of this land, almost half (48.8%), was used for farming. About a quarter (22.6%) was covered by forests. Only a small bit (1.2%) had buildings or roads. The rest (27.5%) was made up of natural features like rivers, glaciers, or mountains.
Location and Hamlets
Langwies is located in a part of the Plessur district called Schanfigg. It sits on the shortest path between two important Swiss towns: Chur and Davos. This path goes over a mountain pass called the Strela pass.
The municipality of Langwies included the main village of Langwies. It also had several smaller villages, known as hamlets. These hamlets were Platz, Litzirüti, Fondei, and Sapün.
Railway Stations
Langwies has its own railway station, called Langwies railway station. It is located on the edge of the village, a bit lower down the hillside. This station is part of the Chur-Arosa railway line.
There is another railway station in the hamlet of Litzirüti. This station is called Litzirüti railway station. Both stations help people travel easily through the area.
People of Langwies
In 2010, Langwies had a population of 292 people. A small number of these people (6.8% in 2008) were from other countries. Over ten years, the number of people living in Langwies went down by about 6.1%.
Languages Spoken
Most people in Langwies speak German. In 2000, about 97% of the population spoke German. A few people also spoke Romansh (0.7%) or Dutch (0.7%).
