Calfreisen is a small village that used to be a separate town in Switzerland. It is located in the Graubünden area, which is a canton (like a state) in Switzerland. Calfreisen is part of the Plessur district.
On January 1, 2013, Calfreisen joined with several other towns. These included Castiel, Langwies, Lüen, Molinis, Peist, and St. Peter-Pagig. All these places became part of the larger town of Arosa.

History of Calfreisen
Calfreisen is a very old place. It was first written about in documents way back in the year 1156. At that time, its name was spelled Caureisene.
Where is Calfreisen?
Before it merged, Calfreisen covered an area of about 5.2 square kilometers (2 square miles). A large part of this land, almost half (49.5%), was used for farming. About 30% of the area was covered by forests.
A small part (1.7%) had buildings or roads. The rest of the land (18.8%) was made up of things like rivers, glaciers, or mountains. These areas are not used for farming or building.
Calfreisen is located on the north side of the Schanfigg mountain. This area is known as the Schanfigg sub-district.
