Filzbach used to be a small town, also known as a municipality, in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. It is no longer a separate town. From January 1, 2011, Filzbach became part of a larger municipality called Glarus Nord.

History of Filzbach
Filzbach was first mentioned in old records way back in 1394. Back then, its name was Vilentzspach.
Geography of Filzbach
In 2006, Filzbach covered an area of about 13.9 square kilometers (5.4 square miles). A big part of its land, about 35%, was used for farming. Forests covered another 41%. About 5% had buildings or roads. The rest, nearly 20%, was made up of mountains, rivers, or glaciers.
Filzbach is located on a flat area on the side of the Kerenzerberg mountain. It sits high above a beautiful lake called Walensee. Two other lakes, Talalpsee and Spaneggsee, are also found higher up in the area.
People and Population
In 2010, Filzbach had a population of 509 people. About 10% of the people living there in 2007 were from other countries. Over the last 10 years, the number of people living in Filzbach has gone down by about 6.7%.
Most people in Filzbach speak German. This was true in 2000, when about 92.6% of the population spoke German. Portuguese was the second most common language, spoken by 1.3% of people. Serbo-Croatian was the third, also spoken by 1.3%.
Voting and Education
In the 2007 national election, the most popular political party was the SVP. They received about 50.9% of the votes. The SPS received most of the remaining votes, with 42.5%.
Many adults in Filzbach have a good education. About 66.5% of people aged 25 to 64 have finished high school or gone on to higher education. This includes university or a special college called a Fachhochschule.
