The first government led by Francisco Franco was created on January 31, 1938. This happened during the Spanish Civil War, soon after he was named the Head of State of Spain. A government is a group of people who lead a country and make important decisions.
This government took over from an earlier group called the Technical State Junta in the area controlled by Franco's side. Later, it also replaced the National Defence Council from the other side when the war ended. This government ruled Spain from January 31, 1938, until August 9, 1939. That's about one year and seven months.
This was a "war cabinet," meaning it was formed during a time of conflict. Its members came from different groups that later joined to form the National Movement. These groups included the FET y de las JONS party, which was the only legal political party in Franco's zone, and members of the military. Some members were also nonpartisan, meaning they didn't belong to a specific political party.
