History of Flat Rock
Flat Rock was officially started in 1876. A merchant named John W. Jones founded the village. He also opened the very first general store there.
Geography and Location
Flat Rock is found in the southern part of Crawford County, Illinois. A main road, Illinois State Route 1, runs just west of the village. This road can take you north about 34 miles (55 km) to Marshall. If you head south, it's about 12 miles (19 km) to Lawrenceville.
The county seat, which is the main town of Crawford County, is Robinson. Robinson is about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Flat Rock. You can get there by taking Illinois State Route 1 and then Illinois State Route 33.
