Club Career
Starting His Football Journey
Florian Grillitsch began playing football when he was young. He started at SVSF Pottschach and later joined St. Pölten for his youth training in Austria.
Playing for Werder Bremen
In 2013, Florian moved to Germany to join Werder Bremen. He first played for their youth team and their reserve team, Werder Bremen II. He showed great skill, scoring many goals for the reserve team.
He made his first big team debut in 2015. This was in a cup match against Würzburger Kickers, where he helped his team win. Soon after, he played his first match in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's main football league. He quickly became an important player, helping his team score goals and even being named "Man of the match" by fans in one game. In 2017, he scored his second goal for Werder Bremen in a big 3–0 win against Leipzig.
Time at 1899 Hoffenheim
On January 16, 2017, Grillitsch signed a contract to join 1899 Hoffenheim. He started playing for them in the 2017–18 season.
He made his first appearance for Hoffenheim in a league match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Later that year, he scored his first goal for the club in a UEFA Europa League game. Hoffenheim also did well in the Bundesliga, finishing fourth in 2017-18. This earned them a spot in the UEFA Champions League, which is a very important European competition.
Florian played many games for Hoffenheim over five seasons. He was a regular starter, playing in 151 matches and scoring eight goals. In the summer of 2022, his contract with the club ended.
Moving to Ajax and Back to Hoffenheim
After leaving Hoffenheim, Florian moved to the Netherlands to play for Ajax in 2022. Ajax was the Dutch champion at the time. However, he returned to Hoffenheim after just one year.
International Career
Florian Grillitsch has also played for the Austrian national team. He has represented his country in many matches, including youth teams like Austria U19, U20, and U21, before joining the senior team.
