Focus Humanitarian Assistance facts for kids
Focus Humanitarian Assistance (often called FOCUS) is a group of international organizations. They help people around the world, especially in developing countries. Their main goal is to provide emergency relief when disasters happen.
FOCUS also helps people become more independent. They want communities to be able to support themselves in the long term. This means people won't need as much help from outside groups.
FOCUS is part of the Aga Khan Development Network. This network works to make life better for people of all backgrounds. They focus on specific areas in the developing world. FOCUS was started by the Ismaili Muslim community. This community has a long history of helping people after natural and man-made disasters in places like Asia and Africa.

Helping After Disasters
When a natural disaster like an earthquake or flood happens, FOCUS steps in. They also help after man-made disasters. They use their network of volunteers to give aid to affected communities.
FOCUS provides many important items. These include emergency food, temporary shelter, clothes, and blankets. They also give out other basic things people need for their homes.
FOCUS works to quickly understand what people need right after a disaster. They also help people who have lost their homes. They make sure these people can keep their dignity as they rebuild their lives.
In India, FOCUS has a special Search & Rescue Team. This team is trained to help people during rescue operations. They also have a Disaster Assessment and Response Team. This team figures out what people need right away and for the long term after a disaster.
Getting Ready for Disasters
FOCUS also helps communities prepare for future disasters. This is called "Disaster Resilience." Their programs teach people how to live safely in their local environment.
They use a scientific method to understand risks. This helps communities plan how to deal with dangers. FOCUS teaches important disaster management skills. They share these skills in schools, hospitals, and community centers.
