Forest City is a small, unincorporated community in Meeker County, Minnesota, United States. It's not a city with its own government, but rather a group of homes and businesses. You can find it close to the towns of Litchfield and Watkins.

The community is located along Meeker County Road 2. This road is near where it meets State Highway 24. The North Fork of the Crow River also flows nearby. In 1870, about 181 people lived here.

History of Forest City

Early Days and Naming

Forest City was planned out in 1857. This process is called "platting." It means that the streets and lots were officially mapped. The community got its name because it was located near a large forest area. This area was known as the "Big Woods."

A post office was opened in Forest City in 1856. It helped people send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed down in 1907.

The Dakota War of 1862

Forest City played a part in the Dakota War of 1862. This was a conflict that happened in Minnesota. In 1862, a group led by Little Crow, a Dakota leader, came to Forest City.

During this event, some buildings in the community were burned. However, the people of Forest City were able to defend their homes. The effort to take over the community was not successful. This event is an important part of Forest City's history.
