Foster is a small community in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It's not a city with its own government, but it's a recognized place. Foster is part of the larger Greater Houston area.
History of Foster
Foster began on land given to John and Randolph Foster in 1824. Before the American Civil War, their farm grew crops like sugarcane and rice. The community officially started in 1882 when it got its own post office.
By 1884, Foster had about 60 people. It also had a steam-powered gristmill (for grinding grain) and a cotton gin (for cleaning cotton). A doctor lived there, and mail was delivered twice a week. In 1892, the town had three gristmills and mail every day. A general store and a flour mill were built by 1896.
Foster became known for growing pecans in 1914. However, by 1925, only 40 people lived there. In 1931, only one business was listed, and the population wasn't even counted. A paved road was built in 1936. The post office closed in the 1940s, but Foster was still a community in 1990. No population numbers were available in 2000.
On November 21, 1992, a strong F2 tornado hit Foster. Today, you can visit the Old Foster Community Museum to learn more about the area's past.
