The Argyrotaenia quadrifasciana, also known as the four-lined leafroller moth, is a type of moth from the Tortricidae family. You can find this moth in North America. It lives in places like Nova Scotia and West Virginia, stretching west to Arkansas and north to Alberta. These moths prefer to live in orchards and areas with lots of shrubs.

About the Four-lined Leafroller Moth

This moth is quite small, with a wingspan of about 14 to 17 millimeters. Its front wings are a yellowish-tan color. They have reddish-brown patches and darker reddish-brown lines across them. The back wings are usually yellow or yellowish-brown.

Life Cycle and Habitat

Adult moths can be seen flying from May to August. They usually have one generation of moths each year.

The young moths, called larvae, eat the leaves of several different plants. They enjoy leaves from Amelanchier species, including Amelanchier alnifolia. They also feed on Crataegus species, Malus sylvestris (which is the wild apple tree), and various Prunus species. This includes trees like Prunus pensylvanica, Prunus serotina, and Prunus virginiana. They also like Pyrus species.

These moths spend the winter as larvae. They are usually in their third stage of growth when they go into hibernation.
