About Four Mile Lake

Four Mile Lake is known as a warm water lake. It covers a large area of about 786 hectares (1,940 acres), which is like 786 football fields! The lake gets its water mainly from Corben Creek. It takes about five years for all the water in the lake to be completely replaced, which is called its "flushing rate."

Lake's Unique Geology

What makes Four Mile Lake special is that it sits on the edge of two very different types of land.

  • The northern part of the lake is on the Canadian Shield. This means its shores are made of hard, ancient granite rock.
  • The southern two-thirds of the lake are on the Corden plain. Here, you'll find shores made of sedimentary limestone cliffs.

Four Mile Lake is a "closed lake system." This means you can't easily travel by boat from Four Mile Lake to other nearby lakes.
