Foy Best Vance (born 18 November 1974) is a talented musician and singer-songwriter from Northern Ireland. He is signed to Ed Sheeran's record label, Gingerbread Man. Vance has toured with Ed Sheeran and his songs have been used in many TV shows. In 2013, he released his second album, Joy of Nothing. Critics loved it, calling it a "gorgeous collection of open, uplifting songs." In 2016, his third album, The Wild Swan, came out. After this, Vance supported famous artists like Elton John and Josh Groban on their tours.

Music Career Highlights
Early Music and First Album: Hope
Foy Vance's first single, "Gabriel and the Vagabond," was released in 2006. Another song, "Indiscriminate Act of Kindness," was used in a TV commercial. Before his first album, he released two smaller music collections called EPs.
In 2007, Vance released his first album, Hope. It received good reviews in the UK. A special part of the album is the song "Two Shades of Hope." It secretly includes a recording of Vance's daughter, Ella, singing "You Are My Sunshine" at the end.
The Melrose EP and Film Music
In 2011, Foy Vance went to Los Angeles to finish recording The Melrose EP. He worked with David Holmes on this project. Vance also hosted a special music event in Belfast called "Foy Vance and Friends." Many of his friends from Belfast joined him on stage.
The Melrose EP was released in 2012. It featured four new songs. The music from this EP was also used in the Academy Award-winning film The Shore. The main song from the EP, "Be the Song," has been featured in many TV shows. These include Private Practice and Arrow. It was also in the movie Warm Bodies.
Vance also supported British artist Ed Sheeran on his UK and US tours. They often sang Sheeran's song "Kiss Me" together on stage. Ed Sheeran has also covered Vance's song "Guiding Light" in his own shows.
Joy of Nothing Album Success
In 2013, Foy Vance signed with Glassnote Records. He then finished his new album, Joy of Nothing, which came out in August. A music video for the title song showed Vance and his daughter Ella.
The album featured guest singers like Bonnie Raitt and Ed Sheeran. Ed Sheeran was very excited for the album to be released. Vance also shared a 22-minute video called Recording Nothing. It showed how he wrote and recorded the album.
In November 2013, Joy of Nothing won the first-ever Northern Ireland Music Prize for best album. This was a big achievement for Vance.
The Wild Swan and World Tours
In 2015, Foy Vance signed with Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records. His third studio album, The Wild Swan, was released in May 2016. Reviewers thought Vance deserved a big commercial success after many years of songwriting.
In 2016, Vance supported Elton John on some of his tour dates in Europe. Later that year, Vance started his own Wild Swan World Tour. He performed in Australia, North America, the UK, and Europe.
Vance also helped write the song "Pushin' Time" for Miranda Lambert's album. In December 2016, he released the song "Moonshine." This song was part of the soundtrack for the film Live by Night. "Moonshine" features Kacey Musgraves and tells the story of a bootlegger.
Recent Albums and Awards
In June 2019, Foy Vance released a new album called From Muscle Shoals. This album has songs inspired by American folk music. They were recorded at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
In July 2019, he worked with American DJ Illenium on the song "Blood." This song was part of Illenium's album Ascend. In September 2019, Vance released another new album, To Memphis. In September 2021, his album Signs of Life came out.
In January 2024, Foy Vance won an Emmy Award! He won for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. This was for the song A Beautiful Game, which was in an episode of the Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso. He shared this award with Ed Sheeran and Max Martin.
Television Appearances
Foy Vance's music has been used in several TV shows. In 2012, his songs were featured in many episodes of The CW series Beauty and the Beast.
In 2007, Vance appeared on RTE's Other Voices, a music show filmed in Dingle, Ireland. He also took part in the Channel 4 series 4Thought.tv. On this show, he talked about how important the hymn "Amazing Grace" was to him. He heard a street musician playing it at Ground Zero in New York. A Channel 4 documentary also covered Vance's career. It showed him growing up and playing shows.
In September 2011, Vance joined Snow Patrol on the BBC Two show Later... with Jools Holland. They performed their song "Fallen Empires." In May 2015, Vance appeared on the same show with the group Rudimental. Vance also presents a show called Notes from the USA on Euronews.
