Fremont is a town located in Sullivan County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,161 people lived there. The Town of Fremont is found in the northwestern part of Sullivan County.

History of Fremont
Fremont became a town in 1851. It was created from a part of the Town of Callicoon. When the first settlers arrived around 1780, there were no roads. People had to travel by using the Delaware River.
The small community of Long Eddy was once called Douglas City. It was the first and only city in Sullivan County. Long Eddy is home to the Basket Historical Society. It also has the Long Eddy Hotel & Saloon, which is the oldest business in Sullivan County that has been owned by the same family.
Geography and Climate in Fremont
The northwestern edge of Fremont borders Delaware County. The southwestern edge borders Pennsylvania (Wayne County). The Delaware River forms this border.
Fremont's Landscape
Fremont's landscape is typical of the northeastern United States. It has hills that are about 2,000 feet (610 meters) high. The valleys are lower than 1,000 feet (305 meters). Most of the town is covered by forests. There are also open fields scattered around.

In the year 2000, there were 1,391 people living in Fremont. These people lived in 563 households, and 394 of these were families. The population density was about 27.6 people per square mile (10.7 people/km²). There were 1,182 houses or housing units.
Most of the people in Fremont were White (94.75%). There were also smaller groups of African American, Native American, and Asian residents. About 1.22% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.

Communities and Locations in Fremont
Fremont is made up of several smaller communities and locations:
- Acidalia – A small community located near the northwestern town line.
- Basket – A community in the western part of the town, east of Long Eddy.
- Buck Brook – A location in the eastern part of the town.
- Fernwood – A community in the western part of the town, close to the northern border.
- Fremont Center – A community located west of the town center. It is found along County Routes 93, 94, and 95.
- Hankins – A community believed to be where the first settlers arrived. Hankins is near the Delaware River in the western part of the town on Route 97. Several historic places in Hankins are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Hankins District No. One Schoolhouse, the Hankins Stone Arch Bridge, and the Anthony Manny House.
- Lakewood – A community in the northeastern part of the town.
- Long Eddy – A community in the far western part of the town, right by the Delaware River. The Riverside Cemetery here was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
- Mileses – A community in the western part of the town, west of Fremont Center.
- Obernburg – A community in the northeastern part of the town along Route 95. It is home to St. Mary's Church, which is the oldest church in Sullivan County. Obernburg was named after a town in Germany.
- Pleasant Valley – A community in the southern part of the town.
- Tennanah Lake (formerly called Long Pond) – A community in the northeastern part of the town. It is located by a lake also called Tennanah Lake.
