Gabby's Badminton Journey
Gabby started playing badminton when she was 10 years old at her school's club. By the age of 16, right after finishing school, she became a full-time professional player.
In 2007, Gabby won a bronze medal at the European Junior Badminton Championships in girls' doubles with her partner, Mariana Agathangelou. That same year, she earned a silver medal in mixed doubles at the BWF World Junior Championships with Chris Adcock. They played a very close final match but were just beaten by a Malaysian team.
Before the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Gabby played with different partners, but they didn't manage to qualify for the games.
Partnering with Chris Adcock
In 2013, Gabby married Chris Adcock, who also became her main mixed doubles partner. Together, they achieved great success! They won the 2013 Hong Kong Super Series by beating the world's top-ranked team. They also won the 2014 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold.
One of their biggest achievements was winning the gold medal in mixed doubles at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. They repeated this amazing feat, winning another gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
In 2015, Gabby and Chris became champions at the 2015 BWF Super Series Masters Finals. This was a big win against a strong Korean team. Gabby also competed in the mixed doubles at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but they didn't make it past the first stage.
In 2019, Gabby and Chris played in the 2019 European Games. They reached the final but won a silver medal after losing to another English team.
Retirement from Badminton
In January 2021, Gabby shared that she had tested positive for COVID-19. Because of this, she and Chris had to pull out of three big tournaments in Thailand.
Gabby officially retired from badminton on May 27, 2021. Her last tournament was the 2020 Denmark Open.
