Gabrielle Marie Adcock (born Gabrielle Marie White on 30 September 1990) is a retired badminton player from England. She was known for being a doubles specialist.
Gabby's Badminton Journey
Gabby started playing badminton when she was 10 years old. She joined her school's badminton club. By age 16, she became a full-time professional player.
In 2007, Gabby won a bronze medal at the 2007 European Junior Badminton Championships. She played in the girls' doubles event with her partner, Mariana Agathangelou. Later that year, she won a silver medal in mixed doubles at the 2007 BWF World Junior Championships. Her partner for this event was Chris Adcock. They lost in a very close final match against a team from Malaysia.
Before the London Olympics in 2012, Gabby played with different partners. However, she did not qualify for the Olympics that year.
Gabby married Chris Adcock in 2013. They became a strong mixed doubles team. In 2013, they won the 2013 Hong Kong Super Series tournament. They beat the world's top-ranked team in the semifinals. The next year, they won the 2014 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold.
A big moment came at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Gabby and Chris won a gold medal in mixed doubles. This was a huge achievement for them.
In 2015, Gabby and Chris became champions at the 2015 BWF Super Series Masters Finals. They won the mixed doubles title against a Korean team. In 2016, Gabby competed in the Summer Olympics. However, she and Chris did not make it past the first round.
In 2019, Gabby and Chris represented Great Britain at the European Games. They reached the final in mixed doubles. They won a silver medal after losing to another team from Great Britain.
In January 2021, Gabby shared that she had tested positive for COVID-19. Because of this, she and Chris had to miss three big tournaments in Thailand. Gabby officially retired from badminton on 27 May 2021. Her last tournament was the 2020 Denmark Open.
