Garbh Eileach is a small, uninhabited island located off the west coast of Scotland. It's part of a group of islands called the Garvellachs, which are found in the Inner Hebrides. This island is the biggest one in the Garvellachs and sits in a body of water known as the Firth of Lorn, between the larger island of Mull and the area of Argyll.
What's in a Name?
The name Garbh Eileach comes from the Gaelic language. It means "rough rock." This name perfectly describes the island's rocky landscape. The entire group of islands, the Garvellachs, actually gets its name from this island.
Exploring the Island
Even though Garbh Eileach is not lived on today, there are signs that people once visited or used the island. On the eastern side of the island, above a small bay, you can find the remains of a tiny, old fort. This ruined structure gives us a peek into the island's past.
