Garfield Gets Real is a fun computer-animated movie from 2007. It stars the famous cartoon cat, Garfield! In some places, it was also called Garfield 3D.
The movie was made by Paws, Inc., Davis Entertainment, and The Animation Picture Company. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment released it. Jim Davis, who created Garfield, wrote the story. He started working on the script way back in 1996.
This film was special because it was the first fully animated Garfield show since 1994. It was also the first Garfield story written by Jim Davis since 1991. The movie first came out in cinemas on August 9, 2007. Later, the DVD was released on November 20, 2007.
Some of the voice actors were new for this movie. Frank Welker voiced Garfield, and Wally Wingert voiced Jon. But Gregg Berger returned to voice Odie, just like in the old shows!

What's the Story?
The movie begins in "Comic Strip World." This is where Garfield, Odie, and Jon live. They are all cartoon characters. They work at a studio where their comic strip is made. Then, the comic strip is sent to "The Real World" to be printed in newspapers.
Garfield is tired of the same old jokes and life in Comic Strip World. He really wants to visit The Real World. One day, Odie's bone accidentally goes through a special screen. This screen separates Comic Strip World from The Real World.
Garfield sees his chance and sneaks through the screen. Soon, his friends in Comic Strip World realize he's gone. Eli, another character, quickly blocks the screen with special tape. This is to stop anyone else from going through. But Odie tries to get his bone back and accidentally gets sucked into The Real World too!
Garfield tries to send Odie back, but he can't. Odie gets his bone, and they both look for food. Garfield meets a new friend named Shecky. While they chat, a group of small dogs chases Odie for his bone. Garfield grabs the bone and runs through a small hole in a tree. The dogs' owner is too big to follow.
Shecky helps Garfield and Odie get food by making people throw food at him. After eating, Shecky takes them to an old, empty hotel called Hotel Muncie. The next day, Garfield realizes his comic strip might be canceled if he doesn't return. He sees an ad in the newspaper looking for new cartoon characters.
Garfield and Odie try out, but they don't do well. The judges like Hale and Hardy more. They are a very strong cat and dog. Garfield gets one last chance: if he doesn't get back to the comic strip in 24 hours, Hale and Hardy will replace them.
Garfield gets an idea to build a big tunnel back to Comic Strip World. He shares his plan with his friends. Later that night, Hale and Hardy tie up Garfield, Odie, and Shecky. They then set the hotel on fire! Billy Bear, Wally, and Jon come to rescue them.
The hotel is full of fire, and all the exits are blocked. Luckily, Shecky finds a fire-proof trash cart. Jon, Wally, Odie, Garfield, and Shecky jump in. Billy Bear is about to push the cart. But Odie realizes his bone is missing! He sees it on a chandelier. Odie jumps onto the chandelier.
Garfield tries to pull Odie onto the cart. But Odie pulls Garfield onto the chandelier instead! Just then, the chandelier starts to fall. Garfield grabs Jon's hand, and the whole cart flies into the air. The chandelier crashes down, and the cart falls to the ground with the chandelier on it.
The cart crashes out of the hotel. The six friends are flung into the big tunnel. The tunnel door closes, and the tunnel disappears. They are all transported back to Comic Strip World! At the end of the movie, all the comic characters celebrate Garfield's return.
