Paws, Inc. is a company started by cartoonist Jim Davis in 1981. Its main job is to support the famous Garfield comic strips. Paws, Inc. also helps manage all the products and shows that feature Garfield. The company is now in New York City. It used to be in Muncie, Indiana, where Jim Davis grew up.
In 1994, Paws, Inc. bought the rights to many old Garfield comic strips. These were the comics from 1978 to 1993. This meant Paws, Inc. owned the rights to these classic stories. Today, a company called Andrews McMeel Syndication helps share the Garfield comic strip with newspapers. But Paws, Inc. still owns the rights to the comic strip itself. By 2015, nearly 50 artists and staff worked at the company.
In 2019, Jim Davis sold Paws, Inc. to a big company called Viacom. Viacom later joined with CBS Corporation to become Paramount Global. This deal meant that Paramount Global now owns Paws, Inc. and all the Garfield merchandise. Paws, Inc. is now part of Paramount's Nickelodeon family. However, Jim Davis still draws the Garfield comic strips from Indiana.
