Garrison is a small city in Crow Wing County, Minnesota, United States. It is located right next to Mille Lacs Lake, a very large lake. In 2020, about 194 people lived there. You can reach Garrison using U.S. Highway 169 and Minnesota State Highway 18, which are the main roads in the area.
History of Garrison
Garrison started as a town called Midland in 1880. It was officially planned out, or 'plattted', that year. Later, in May 1937, it became an official city.
The area around Garrison, called Garrison Township, was named after Oscar E. Garrison. He was a land surveyor and civil engineer. Oscar E. Garrison also helped plan another city in Minnesota called Wayzata way back in 1854. The post office in Garrison opened in 1884.
Geography and Location
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of Garrison covers about 1.10 square miles (2.71 square kilometers) of land. There is no water within the city limits.
Garrison is located in the southeastern part of Crow Wing County. It sits right on the northwest shore of Mille Lacs Lake. Even though it's inside Garrison Township, the city of Garrison is a separate place with its own government.
