Mountain type granite tor

Garrow Tor is a cool hill found in the northwest of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, England. It stands about 330 meters (1,083 feet) high. The top of the hill has bare rocks, which is why it's called a "tor." A tor is a large, rocky outcrop that forms on top of a hill. Garrow Tor is a great place to explore and learn about ancient history.

Exploring Garrow Tor

Garrow Tor is located on Garrow Downs, a wide-open area perfect for hiking. The hill is made of granite, a very hard type of rock. When you reach the top, you'll find amazing views all around.

Amazing Views from the Top

From the summit of Garrow Tor, you can see far and wide. To the south, you might spot Caradon Hill. Looking north, you'll see other famous tors like Rough Tor and Brown Willy. To the east is Butter's Tor. If you look west, you'll see areas known for clay mining. On a clear day, you can even see the Atlantic Ocean to the northwest!

Ancient History and Settlements

Garrow Tor isn't just a pretty hill; it's also full of history! Many years ago, people lived here. You can still find signs of their homes and communities. There's a huge stone hedge, which was like a fence made of rocks.

You can also see evidence of Bronze Age settlements. This was a time when people used bronze tools. There are also hut circles, which are the stone foundations of ancient round houses. Later, during the Middle Ages, more people lived here, and you can find traces of their settlements too. It's like a giant outdoor museum!

Rivers and Nearby Landmarks

A river called the De Lank River flows past the eastern side of Garrow Tor. It starts in the north and flows south, then curves around the bottom of the hill. Not far from Garrow Tor, about a kilometer to the southwest, is a mysterious place called King Arthur's Hall. It's a large, rectangular stone enclosure that many people visit.

How to Visit Garrow Tor

If you want to visit Garrow Tor, a good place to park your car is near the waterworks, which are located to the southwest of the hill. From there, you can start your adventure up to the tor!
