Exploring the Town of Geldermalsen
The town of Geldermalsen has some interesting old buildings. In the town centre, you can find a Gothic church that was built in the 15th century. It has an even older Romanesque tower from the 13th century.
Geldermalsen is also home to two historic windmills. One is called De Watermolen, which was built in 1772. The other is De Bouwing, built later in 1848. On the west side of town, you'll find 'The Lingeborgh', which is a public high school.
The Former Municipality of Geldermalsen
The municipality of Geldermalsen was created on January 1, 1978. This happened when several smaller municipalities, including Beesd, Buurmalsen, Deil, and the town of Geldermalsen itself, joined together. This made it one of the largest municipalities in the Betuwe region.
In 2019, the municipality of Geldermalsen merged with Neerijnen and Lingewaal. Together, they formed a new, bigger municipality called West Betuwe. The Linge river flows through both the former municipality area and the town of Geldermalsen.
