Gennep (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣɛnəp]) is a municipality and a city in the southeastern part of the Netherlands. It is located in the northern area of the Limburg province. Gennep is about 18 kilometers south of Nijmegen. It sits on the right bank of the Meuse river, just south of the Klever Reichswald forest. In 2014, the municipality of Gennep had 17,277 people living there.
The Niers river also flows into the Meuse river in Gennep.

History of Gennep City
Gennep was once home to a noble family. Two famous people from this family were Saint Norbert of Gennep, a Catholic priest, and William of Gennep, who became an important Archbishop.
Gennep likely received its city rights in 1371. City rights were special permissions that gave a town more freedom and control over its own affairs. However, the original documents for these rights were lost in a fire at the Gennep town hall in the late 1500s.
In 2001, the city of Gennep had 8,306 residents. The built-up area of the town was about 2.11 square kilometers. This area contained 3,124 homes.
