George Prescott Bush, born on April 24, 1976, is an American politician and lawyer. He served as the commissioner of the Texas General Land Office from 2015 to 2023. He is a member of the Republican Party. In 2022, he ran for Texas Attorney General but did not win the party's nomination.
George P. Bush comes from a well-known political family, the Bush family. He is the son of Jeb Bush, who was the governor of Florida. His uncle is George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States. His grandfather was George H. W. Bush, the 41st President. His great-grandfather was Prescott Bush, a U.S. senator from Connecticut.

Early Life and Education
George P. Bush was born in Houston, Texas. His parents are Jeb Bush and Columba Bush. He has two younger siblings, Noelle and John. He attended Gulliver Preparatory School in the Miami area.
In 1998, Bush graduated from Rice University with a degree in history. He then went to the University of Texas School of Law. He earned his law degree in 2003.
Career Highlights
Teaching and Law
From 1998 to 1999, Bush taught social studies at a public high school in Homestead, Florida. He also worked as a chairman for Uplift Education, a charter school district in Dallas.
After law school, Bush worked for a U.S. District Judge from 2003 to 2004. From 2004 to 2007, he practiced corporate and securities law in Dallas. He was recognized as a "Rising Star" for his legal work.
Bush later became a partner at a real estate investment firm in Austin, Texas. He also started his own investment firm focused on energy and technology. After his 2022 election campaign, he joined a law firm in Austin.
Military Service
Bush was inspired to join the military after attending a ship launch in 2006. In March 2007, he joined the United States Navy Reserve. He trained as an intelligence officer.
He served in Afghanistan for eight months, from June 2010 to February 2011. He left the U.S. Navy Reserve in May 2017 as a lieutenant.

Running for Office
In September 2012, Bush announced he was thinking about running for a state office in Texas. Two months later, he officially filed papers to run. His father, Jeb Bush, asked supporters to help him in his campaign for Texas Land Commissioner.
By January 2013, Bush had raised a lot of money for his campaign. In March 2013, he officially filed to run for Texas Land Commissioner. The main job of this office is to manage millions of acres of state land. This includes handling leases for oil and natural gas.
In the 2014 Republican primary election, Bush won with 74 percent of the votes. In the general election in November 2014, he won with 61 percent of the votes. He became the only member of the Bush family to win his first election.
Re-election in 2018
Bush ran for re-election in 2018. He won the Republican primary with almost 58 percent of the vote. In the general election, he received 53.68 percent of the vote and was re-elected.
Key Actions as Commissioner
George P. Bush became the Texas Land Commissioner on January 2, 2015. In this role, he managed the Texas General Land Office (GLO). This office oversees about 13 million acres of state land. It also handles auctions for oil and natural gas leases on these lands.
One of his major actions was taking control of the Alamo in San Antonio in 2015. The Alamo is a very important historic site. He oversaw a large project to remodel the Alamo and the area around it.
In 2016, his office started a study on how floods affect the Houston area and the Texas coast.
2022 Texas Attorney General Election
In June 2021, Bush announced he would run for Texas Attorney General in 2022. He ran against the current Attorney General, Ken Paxton. During his campaign, Bush talked about issues like "massive voter fraud" and "critical race theory" in schools. He also supported finishing the "Trump wall" and going after human traffickers.
Bush was defeated by Ken Paxton in the primary election runoff. Paxton received 68% of the vote, while Bush received 32%. This election marked the end of his time as an elected official.

Campaigning for Family and Others
Bush has been involved in politics since he was young. At age 12, he spoke at the 1988 Republican National Convention for his grandfather. He also campaigned for his uncle, George W. Bush, during his presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004. He often helped reach out to Latino voters.
In 2016, after his father, Jeb Bush, stopped his presidential campaign, George P. Bush supported Donald Trump. Most of the rest of the Bush family did not support Trump. By 2021, Bush was known as a strong supporter of Trump.
Republican Party Work
In 2012, he was the deputy finance chairman for the Republican Party of Texas. He also helped lead Maverick PAC, a group that encourages young Republican voters.
Bush has been part of several diplomacy trips to other countries. He also co-founded Hispanic Republicans of Texas. This group works to elect Republican candidates in Texas.
Political Views
In 2004, Bush criticized the use of certain non-lethal weapons by the U.S. Border Patrol. He called it "reprehensible."
In 2009, he spoke about the need for careful spending by the government. He supported Marco Rubio in his 2010 campaign for the U.S. Senate.
Bush believes that climate change is a serious threat to Texas. However, he does not agree with the scientific view that human activity is the main cause. In 2021, after power outages in Texas, he said that oil and gas are essential. He argued that relying only on renewable energy would be "catastrophic."
Personal Life
In 2000, People magazine included him in their list of 100 most eligible bachelors.
George P. Bush married Amanda L. Williams, a classmate from law school, on August 7, 2004. They were married in Kennebunkport, Maine. Amanda Williams is a lawyer in Fort Worth, Texas. The couple has two sons.
Awards and Honors
In 2016, the League of United Latin American Citizens in Laredo honored Bush. They gave him the title of Señor Internacional for his work in the border region.
