George Prescott Bush (born April 24, 1976) is an American politician and lawyer. He was the Land Commissioner for Texas from 2015 to 2023. He is a member of the Republican Party. In 2022, he ran for Texas Attorney General but did not win.
George P. Bush comes from a famous political family, the Bush family. His father, Jeb Bush, was the governor of Florida. His uncle, George W. Bush, was the 43rd President of the United States. His grandfather, George H. W. Bush, was the 41st President. His great-grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a U.S. Senator.

Early Life and School
George P. Bush was born in Houston, Texas. His parents are Jeb Bush and Columba Bush. He has a younger sister, Noelle, and a younger brother, John Jr. He went to Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, Florida.
Bush studied history at Rice University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998. He then went to University of Texas School of Law and became a lawyer in 2003.
Career Paths
Teaching and Education
From 1998 to 1999, Bush taught social studies at a public high school in Homestead, Florida. He also served as the chairman for Uplift Education in Tarrant County. This is a group of charter schools in Dallas.
Legal and Business Work
After law school, Bush worked for a U.S. District Judge from 2003 to 2004. He then practiced corporate and securities law in Dallas until 2007. In 2005, Texas Monthly magazine named him one of their "Rising Stars."
From 2007 to 2012, Bush was a partner at Pennybacker Capital, LLC. This company invests in real estate in Austin, Texas. In 2012, he started his own investment firm, St. Augustine Partners, in Fort Worth. After running for Attorney General in 2022, he joined a law firm called Michael Best & Friedrich LLP in Austin.
Military Service
Bush decided to join the military after attending a ship launch in 2006. He was also inspired by the story of Pat Tillman, a football player who became an Army Ranger and died in Afghanistan.
In 2007, Bush joined the United States Navy Reserve. He trained to be an intelligence officer. He served in Afghanistan for eight months, from June 2010 to February 2011. He left the Navy Reserve in May 2017 as a lieutenant.

Running for Office
In 2012, George P. Bush announced he wanted to run for a state office in Texas. His father, Jeb Bush, asked people to support him. In 2013, Bush officially filed to run for Texas Land Commissioner. This job involves managing about 13 million acres of state land. It also includes making deals for oil and natural gas on those lands.
In the 2014 Republican primary election, Bush won with 74 percent of the votes. In the main election in November, he ran against John Cook. Bush won with 61 percent of the votes. He was the only member of the Bush family to win his first election.
He ran for re-election in 2018. He won the Republican primary with almost 58 percent of the votes. In the general election, he won with 53.68 percent of the votes.
Time in Office
Bush became the Texas Land Commissioner on January 2, 2015.
One of his big projects was overseeing the Alamo in San Antonio. The Alamo is a very important historical site. Bush's office took over managing the Alamo in 2015. He worked on a $450 million plan to improve the Alamo and the area around it.
Bush also oversaw a study on how floods affect the Houston area and the Texas coast.
In 2020, Bush supported Donald Trump for re-election. He said, "Trump is the only thing standing between America and socialism." In 2021, he supported removing Liz Cheney from her leadership role in Congress.
Running for Attorney General
In 2020 and 2021, Bush thought about running for Texas Attorney General in 2022. On June 2, 2021, he officially announced he would run. He made a campaign video that praised Donald Trump. However, Trump later supported Bush's opponent, Ken Paxton.
During his campaign, Bush talked about "massive voter fraud" and "critical race theory" in schools. He also wanted to finish building the "Trump wall."
In the primary election, Bush received 32% of the votes. He was defeated by Ken Paxton, who received 68%. This loss was seen by some as the end of a four-generation political family's winning streak.

Campaign Work for Family and Others
When he was 12 years old, Bush spoke at the 1988 Republican National Convention. This is where his grandfather was nominated for president. He also spoke at the 1992 convention. He helped his uncle, George W. Bush, in his presidential campaigns in 2000 and 2004. He often reached out to Latino voters.
In 2003, Bush said his grandmother, Barbara Bush, told him that anyone wanting to enter politics should first succeed in another field. She advised him to "Make a name for yourself, have a family, marry someone great, have some kids, buy a house, pay taxes, and do the things everyone also does."
After his father, Jeb Bush, stopped his presidential campaign in 2016, George P. Bush campaigned for Donald Trump. Most of the other Bush family members did not support Trump. By 2021, ABC News called Bush a strong supporter of Trump. Trump, who had not always been friendly with the Bush family, even called him "My Bush."

In 2012, Bush was the deputy finance chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.
Political Action Committees
Bush was a national co-chair of Maverick PAC. This group helps get younger Republican voters involved. He also went on several diplomatic trips. These included trips to Nicaragua, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Bush is also a co-founder of Hispanic Republicans of Texas. This group works to elect Republican candidates in Texas.
Political Views
In 2004, Bush criticized the use of guns that fire plastic pellets filled with chili powder by the U.S. Border Patrol. He called it "reprehensible" and "barbarous."
In 2009, he criticized Florida Governor Charlie Crist for accepting money from a government stimulus package. Bush called for a return to careful spending by the government. In 2010, he supported Marco Rubio for the U.S. Senate.
Bush believes that climate change is a serious threat to Texas. However, he does not agree with the scientific idea that human activity causes climate change.
In February 2021, Texas had widespread power outages during a cold snap. Bush said that Texas needs oil and gas. He stated that relying only on renewable energy would be "catastrophic."
Personal Life
In 2000, People magazine included him in their list of the 100 most eligible bachelors.
Bush married Amanda L. Williams, a classmate from law school, on August 7, 2004. They were married in Kennebunkport, Maine. Amanda Williams is a lawyer who works in Fort Worth. They have two sons.
Awards and Honors
In 2016, the League of United Latin American Citizens in Laredo gave Bush and Mexican official José Antonio Meade Kuribreña the title of Señor Internacional. This honor is given to important people in the border region.
