Giles Lyndon Scott (born June 23, 1987) is a super talented British competitive sailor. He is famous for winning the Finn Gold Cup four times. He also has two Olympic gold medals!

Giles won his first Olympic gold medal for Team GB at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He was so good in the Finn Class that he secured his win with a day to spare. In January 2024, Giles became the Driver for the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team. He took over this role from Sir Ben Ainslie. Giles won his first SailGP event in Halifax, Canada, in June 2024. This was the first-ever ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix. Giles was also the Head of Sailing for Sir Ben Ainslie's British America's Cup Team, called INEOS Britannia. They competed in the 37th America's Cup in Barcelona. In September 2024, Giles was announced as the Driver for Canada's NorthStar SailGP Team.

Early Life and How He Started Sailing

Giles Scott was born in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, England. His parents are John and Rosalind Scott. When he was one year old, in 1988, his family moved to Canada. His dad worked for the government there.

It was in Canada that Giles first tried sailing. He sailed small boats called dinghies on the Ottawa River. When he was six, in 1993, he moved back to England. He started sailing again at a place called Grafham Water in Cambridgeshire. His parents really encouraged him to get into competitive sailing. Giles went to Sharnbrook Upper School and later studied Geography at the University of Southampton.

Giles Scott has won many important sailing competitions around the world. He is known for his skill and determination.

World Championship Wins

Giles has won the World Championships several times in different boat classes:

  • 2005: He won the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships in the Laser boat.
  • 2008: He won the Finn Junior World Championship.
  • 2011: He won the Finn World Championship.
  • 2014: He won the Finn World Championship again.
  • 2015: He won the Finn World Championship for the third time.
  • 2016: He won the Finn World Championship for the fourth time!

European Championship Wins

He has also been very successful in European Championships:

  • 2011: He won the Finn European Championships.
  • 2014: He won the Finn European Championships again.
  • 2019: He won the Finn European Championships for the third time.
