Early Life and Family Background
Glen Johnson was born in Greenwich, London. He grew up in Dartford, Kent. He was born Glen Stephens, but he later took his mother's last name, Johnson, after his parents separated. His parents named him after the famous English footballer Glenn Hoddle.
Glen was raised by his mother, along with his younger brother and older half-sister. At one point, his family lived in a hostel because they didn't have a home. Johnson gives a lot of credit to his mother for helping him become a football player. He said she had a tough time raising three kids by herself. He also mentioned that once his mom got her driving license, she could take him to football every week, which was a fresh start for them.
