Glenn Jamon Dorsey (born August 1, 1985) is a former American football player. He was a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). Glenn played college football for the LSU Tigers. He was recognized as one of the best college defensive players in 2007. The Kansas City Chiefs picked him fifth overall in the 2008 NFL draft. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers.

Early Life and High School Football
Glenn Dorsey was born in Gonzales, Louisiana. He went to East Ascension High School there. He was known as one of the best defensive linemen in the country. Experts also called him one of the top three players in Louisiana.
During his junior year, Glenn made over 100 tackles. He also had 12 sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. As a senior, he missed three games because of an ankle injury. Still, he finished with 43 tackles and two sacks.
College Career with LSU Tigers

Glenn Dorsey played college football at Louisiana State University (LSU). He played for the LSU Tigers football team from 2004 to 2007. In his first year, 2004, he started in 3 of 12 games. He recovered a fumble on his very first play. A fumble is when a player accidentally drops the ball. He ended that year with 18 tackles.
In 2005, he started in 1 of 13 games. He was part of a group of four strong defensive tackles for LSU. He finished the season with 28 tackles and 3 sacks.
The 2006 season was a great one for Dorsey. He was named to the All-American team. He was also chosen for the All-SEC team. He had 64 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for loss. A tackle for loss means stopping an opponent behind their starting line. He was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week twice.
In 2007, Dorsey started 13 of 14 games. He had 69 tackles and 7 sacks. He also had 12.5 tackles for loss and three passes defensed. A pass defensed is when a defensive player blocks or tips a pass. He forced one fumble that year. He was again named SEC Defensive Player of the Week twice.
After the 2007 season, he was named a unanimous first-team All-American. He also received many votes for the Heisman Trophy. This award goes to the most outstanding player in college football. Glenn Dorsey won four major awards: the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Outland Trophy, the Lott Trophy, and the Lombardi Award. He is the only player ever to win all four. He helped LSU win the BCS national title in 2007. He played through knee and tailbone injuries to help his team win.

Professional Career in the NFL
Kansas City Chiefs Years
The Kansas City Chiefs picked Glenn Dorsey in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the fifth player chosen overall. In July 2008, he signed a big contract with the Chiefs.
On November 8, 2008, he got his first career sack. This happened against San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. He finished his first season with 46 tackles and one sack.
When the Chiefs changed their defense, Dorsey moved to play defensive end. He started 14 of 15 games in 2009. He had 54 tackles and one sack that year. In 2010, he started all 16 games. He recorded 69 tackles and two sacks. In 2011, he had 62 tackles but no sacks.
San Francisco 49ers Years
On March 13, 2013, Dorsey signed a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. He was expected to be a backup player. But the starting nose tackle, Ian Williams, got injured. So, Dorsey became the starter in the second week of the season.
Dorsey signed another two-year contract with the 49ers in 2014. However, he missed the entire 2014 season. This was due to a torn biceps injury. On November 25, 2015, he was placed on the injured reserve list. This happened because he tore his torn ACL (a knee ligament). In 2016, his final season, he played in 12 games and started seven. He finished with one sack and 24 total tackles.
Activism and Community Work
Glenn Dorsey has used his platform to help others. He filmed a campaign for the proper treatment of dogs. This was done in partnership with PETA.
