Grüsch is a lovely Swiss village and a municipality in the canton of Graubünden. It is located in a beautiful area called Prättigau.

On January 1, 2011, two nearby villages, Fanas and Valzeina, joined with Grüsch. This made Grüsch a larger municipality.

History of Grüsch

Grüsch was first mentioned in old writings around the year 1340. Back then, it was sometimes called Grusch. Later, in 1375, it was known as Crüsch. These old names show how long the village has been around!

Grüsch covers an area of about 43.30 square kilometers (about 16.7 square miles). A big part of this land, about 39.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover even more, about 51.3% of the area.

About 6.2% of Grüsch is covered by buildings and roads. The rest, about 3%, includes natural features like rivers or mountains.

Before 2017, the village was known for its unique shape. It was a Haufendorf, which means an unplanned village with houses built closely together around a central area. Grüsch also includes smaller settlements called hamlets, like Überlandquart and Cavadura. These hamlets have been part of Grüsch since 1874.
