Fanas is a lovely village in Switzerland. It is located in an area called Prättigau, in the canton of Graubünden. For a long time, Fanas was its own separate town (a 'municipality'). But on January 1, 2011, Fanas joined with another village called Valzeina to become part of a bigger town named Grüsch.

Fanas has a long history! The first time anyone wrote about Fanas was in the second half of the 1100s. Back then, it was called Phanaunes.

Where is Fanas Located?

Fanas covers an area of about 21.8 square kilometers (around 8.4 square miles). A large part of this land, about 45%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 36.8% of the area.

Only a small part, 0.7%, has buildings or roads. The rest of the land, about 17.5%, is made up of things like rivers, glaciers, or mountains.

The village is found on a flat area, like a terrace, between the towns of Grüsch and Schiers. Fanas itself is a linear village, which means its buildings are mostly spread out along a road.

Who Lives in Fanas?

As of December 31, 2010, Fanas had a population of 401 people. In 2008, about 3.1% of the people living there were from other countries. Over the ten years before 2010, the number of people in Fanas grew by about 3.7%.
