About Great Blakenham
Great Blakenham is a quiet village in the county of Suffolk. It is part of the Mid Suffolk district. The village is close to Ipswich, a bigger town in the area. This location makes it easy for residents to access city services.
Waste Management Centre
A special centre for managing waste was opened in Great Blakenham in December 2014. This centre is called an "energy from waste" facility. It was built by a company called SITA UK.
This centre takes all the rubbish from homes in Mid Suffolk and Babergh. Instead of sending rubbish to a landfill (a big hole in the ground where waste is buried), the centre burns it. This process creates energy, which is a much cleaner way to deal with waste. It means no rubbish from these areas goes into landfills anymore.
