Journey of the Greenhill River
The Greenhill River starts its journey at Greenhill Lake in Makawa Township. From there, it flows north, making a curve around the west side of the lake. It then turns southeast towards Amik Lake.
Through Different Townships
The river continues its path, flowing southeast and then northeast through the middle of Amik Township. It then enters Nebotik Township at its southwest corner. The Greenhill River keeps going northeast before turning east.
Meeting Other Rivers
As it flows east, the Greenhill River meets and takes in the South Greenhill River, which is a smaller river joining it from the right side. The river then enters Conking Township, where it turns northeast.
Final Stretch to Missinaibi River
Next, the Greenhill River enters Hayward Township. Here, it flows under the Canadian National Railway's main train line. This railway line is used by Via Rail passenger trains, like the Canadian, which travel between Fire River and Argolis. After passing under the railway, the Greenhill River reaches its end, flowing into the Missinaibi River. The Missinaibi River then carries these waters to the Moose River, which finally empties into James Bay.
Special Protected Areas
Most of the Greenhill River's path is located within the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve. This is a large protected area where hunting and trapping are restricted to help wildlife thrive. A small part of the river, just north of the Canadian National Railway line, is located within Missinaibi Provincial Park. Provincial Parks are also protected areas, often used for recreation and to preserve nature.
