Greenlawn is a small community in Suffolk County, New York, United States. It is known as a hamlet and a census-designated place (CDP). Greenlawn is located on Long Island within the Town of Huntington. In 2020, about 13,661 people lived there. Most students in Greenlawn attend the Harborfields Central School District.

Greenlawn's History and Name
Greenlawn was first called Old Fields. Its name changed to Greenlawn around 1870 or 1871. This happened when the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) arrived. The LIRR chose the name Greenlawn for its station. They wanted to create a peaceful, country-like image. This was meant to encourage people to travel to the beaches in Centerport.
Farming and the Pickle King
In the 1800s, Greenlawn was famous for its pickle production. Farmers also grew potatoes and cabbage. Pickles were the main crop. The community still celebrates this history with an annual Pickle Festival. The local Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association holds this festival at the John Gardiner Farm.
The Gardiner family was well-known for growing pickles. Later, a former enslaved man named Samuel Ballton became very successful. He was known as "The Pickle King" in the early 1900s because he grew so many pickles.

Greenlawn is located at 40°51′28″N 73°21′57″W / 40.85778°N 73.36583°W. The United States Census Bureau says that Greenlawn covers an area of about 3.7 square miles (9.92 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

In 2010, there were 13,742 people living in Greenlawn. There were 4,560 households. The community is diverse. About 74% of residents were White, 13.9% African American, and 4.1% Asian. About 12.5% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino. The average household had about 2.94 people.

- The independent movie Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas was filmed in Greenlawn. This happened in late 2005 and early 2006.
- Parts of the independent film L.I.E. were filmed at Harborfields High School.
Annual Events in Greenlawn
- Greenlawn is famous for its annual Pickle Festival. This event celebrates the town's history of pickle farming.
- The Greenlawn Fire Department holds an annual Fireman's Fair. This fair takes place on Labor Day weekend. It started in 1906 and is known as the oldest and largest fair of its kind in New York state.

- The famous artist Cindy Sherman grew up in Greenlawn. She graduated from Harborfields High School.
- The pop singer Mariah Carey also grew up in Greenlawn. She attended and graduated from Harborfields High School.
- Jeff Hawkins, born in 1957, graduated from Harborfields High School in 1975. He founded Palm Computing and invented the Palm Pilot. He also founded Handspring and invented the Treo.
- Fay Kellogg was a leading woman architect in the US. She spent summers on her farm in Greenlawn. She also designed Greenlawn's post office in 1911.
- Christine Frederick, a home economist, did household experiments from her house on Cuba Hill Road.
- Charles Ludlam, an actor and playwright, grew up in Greenlawn. He founded the Theater of the Ridiculous in New York City. He also graduated from Harborfields High School.
- Sara Whalen (born 1976) is an Olympic medalist soccer player.
- Clark Gillies, a Hockey Hall of Famer, lived in Greenlawn. He won four Stanley Cups with the New York Islanders and was a team captain. He passed away in 2022.
- Karl Linnas, a surveyor, also lived in Greenlawn.
Historical Sites in Greenlawn
- John Gardiner Farm - The original house on this property was built in the 1750s. The Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association now owns this historic farm.
