Where Does the Greenwater River Start?
The Greenwater River begins in the eastern part of Pierce County. Its source is in the Norse Peak Wilderness, close to Corral Pass. This area is part of the Cascade Range.
How Does the River Flow?
The river starts by draining the northern side of Castle Mountain. It then flows north, passing through two small lakes: Hidden Lake and Echo Lake. After Echo Lake, the river turns slightly west.
Tributaries and Their Paths
As it flows, the Greenwater River collects water from smaller streams called tributaries. These include Maggie Creek, Lost Creek, and Meadow Creek. After these join, the river turns more directly west.
Meadow Creek starts near Naches Pass and flows through an area known as Government Meadows before joining the Greenwater River. The boundary between King and Pierce counties follows Meadow Creek from Naches Pass. Then, this boundary continues to follow the Greenwater River all the way to the White River.
Greenwater Lakes and Other Streams
Further along its path, the Greenwater River flows through two small ponds known as Greenwater Lakes. It continues to gather water from more tributary streams as it moves west.
Notable Feeder Streams
One important tributary is George Creek, which flows from George Lake near Noble Knob. Another is Pyramid Creek, which starts at Pyramid Peak.
Where Does the Greenwater River End?
As the Greenwater River gets closer to the White River, it flows between Huckleberry Mountain to the north and Dalles Ridge to the south. The Greenwater River finally joins the White River at the small community of Greenwater.
