Greg Baldwin is an American voice actor. This means he uses his voice to bring characters to life in cartoons, movies, and video games. He is famous for voicing characters like Uncle Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender and Aku in Samurai Jack. He took over these roles from the original actor, Mako Iwamatsu, after Mako passed away.

Greg Baldwin's Acting Journey

Greg Baldwin has a long history in acting. Before becoming a well-known voice actor, he performed in many plays. He acted in theater productions like Little Shop of Horrors and The Baker's Wife.

Taking Over Famous Voices

Greg Baldwin is especially known for stepping into the shoes of another famous voice actor, Mako Iwamatsu. Mako was the original voice for beloved characters like Uncle Iroh and Aku. When Mako could no longer record, Greg was chosen to continue voicing these characters.

Many people thought Greg was Mako's student, but he actually got the parts by auditioning. He first voiced Uncle Iroh for small parts in the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Later, he became the full-time voice for Iroh in the final season of Avatar and in The Legend of Korra.

Greg also voiced Splinter in the movie TMNT. He recorded his lines after Mako had passed away during the movie's production. Because their voices were so similar, it was hard to tell the difference.

After Avatar ended, Greg took on the role of Aku for the video game Cartoon Network Universe: FusionFall. He later voiced Aku again for the fifth season of Samurai Jack and the Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time video game.

The creator of Samurai Jack, Genndy Tartakovsky, talked about choosing Greg. He said it was tough to replace Mako because he was so special. But Greg did a great job. Mako's daughter and grandson even watched Greg record, and they cried because it sounded so much like their dad and grandfather.

Other Voice Roles

Besides taking over Mako's roles, Greg Baldwin has also voiced many original characters. He has worked on popular shows and video games. He voiced several characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures.

He also made guest appearances in SpongeBob SquarePants, Curious George, and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

In video games, you can hear his voice in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, and Fallout 4. He was also the original voice for Frank Fontaine in BioShock, though another actor's voice was used in the final game.

More recently, Greg announced he was cast in a new role for the Disney show The Ghost and Molly McGee. He plays Bartholomew, a member of the Ghost Council, and provides other voices for the series.

Greg has even done a rare live-action role. He appeared as a writer named Dutch Zweistrong in the movie Hail, Caesar!.

Greg Baldwin's Life

Greg Baldwin lives in Albuquerque with his wife, Melissa Baldwin. They have two children named Sydney and Cooper.

To help him sound like Mako for his voice roles, Greg listened to a musical album called Pacific Overtures. This was one of Mako's favorite albums, and it helped Greg capture the right voice.

In 2023, Greg mentioned on his Twitter account that he was thinking about running for Governor of New Mexico in 2026. In 2024, he said he was still interested in running. He wants to run as part of the White Lotus Party. This party is named after a secret group in Avatar: The Last Airbender, which his character, Iroh, is a part of.
