Gregory Allen Jackson (born August 20, 1966) is an American football coach. He currently coaches safeties for the Houston Texans in the National Football League (NFL). Before becoming a coach, Jackson played as a safety in the NFL for 12 seasons. He played for teams like the New York Giants, San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, and New Orleans Saints. The Giants picked him in the third round of the 1989 NFL draft after he played college football at LSU.
Playing in the NFL
Greg Jackson played as a starting free safety for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1994. He played there for two seasons.
He is also known for a big play in a 1993 game. He made a tackle against Emmitt Smith that caused a shoulder injury. Even with the injury, Smith played very well. This helped his team, the Dallas Cowboys, get a good spot in the playoffs. They later won the Super Bowl XXVIII.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Greg Jackson became a coach. He started coaching different positions at colleges.
In 2011, he joined the San Francisco 49ers as an assistant coach. He helped coach the defensive backs. Later, he moved to the University of Michigan to coach there.
In 2016, Jackson returned to the NFL. He became the safeties coach for the Dallas Cowboys. He worked with the team until 2020. In 2021, the Houston Texans hired him as their safeties coach.
