Gregory Allen Jackson, born on August 20, 1966, is a well-known American football coach. He is currently the safeties coach for the Houston Texans in the National Football League (NFL). Before becoming a coach, Jackson was a professional football player. He played as a safety in the NFL for 12 seasons.
He played for several teams during his career, including the New York Giants, San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, and New Orleans Saints. The New York Giants picked him in the third round of the 1989 NFL draft. Before joining the NFL, he played college football at LSU.

Greg Jackson's Time as a Safety
Greg Jackson was a strong safety in the NFL for over a decade. He was known for his skills in tackling and defending against passes. In 1994, he became the starting free safety for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played this important role for two seasons. After that, a new player, Brian Dawkins, took over his starting position.
Memorable Moments on the Field
One of Jackson's notable plays happened in the 1993 season. He made a key tackle against Emmitt Smith of the Dallas Cowboys. This tackle was part of a very important game. Even after the tackle, Smith had an amazing performance, helping his team win. This victory helped the Cowboys get a good spot in the playoffs. They later went on to win their second straight Super Bowl, Super Bowl XXVIII. This game is still remembered as one of the Dallas Cowboys' greatest games.
Coaching Career
Starting as a Coach
After his playing career, Greg Jackson decided to become a football coach. He started coaching at the college level. He worked with teams like Idaho, Louisiana–Monroe, and Tulane. He often coached defensive backs, who are players like safeties and cornerbacks.
Coaching in the NFL
Jackson moved to the NFL coaching ranks in 2011. He joined the San Francisco 49ers as an assistant secondary coach. He worked there for several years. In 2015, he went to the University of Michigan to coach defensive backs. He joined Jim Harbaugh, who had been his head coach with the 49ers.
In 2016, Jackson returned to the NFL. He was hired by the Dallas Cowboys to be their safeties coach. He helped guide the team's safeties for several seasons. In 2020, when the Cowboys' head coach, Jason Garrett, left the team, Jackson also moved on. On March 10, 2021, the Houston Texans hired Greg Jackson as their safeties coach, where he continues to work today.
