The Growler Valley is a long, flat area of land in south-central Arizona. It's located west of a town called Ajo. This valley is a cool natural spot in the Sonoran Desert.

About Growler Valley
The Growler Valley stretches for about 65 miles (105 kilometers). It runs alongside two mountain ranges. To its east are the Growler Mountains, which are connected to the Little Ajo Mountains. To its west are the Granite Mountains.
Water Flow in the Valley
A stream called the Growler Wash flows through the valley. It moves towards the northwest. Then, it turns west to meet the San Cristobal Wash. This meeting point is at the northern end of the Granite Mountains.
The Growler Valley is part of a larger area called the San Cristobal Wash Watershed. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a common point. Water from the northern part of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument flows into this valley. Water from the southern parts of the valley flows into northern Sonora, Mexico. The San Cristobal Wash flows northwest. However, its water disappears into the ground before it can reach the Gila River Valley.
How to Visit Growler Valley
You can reach the Growler Valley by dirt roads. These roads start from Ajo, which is on State Route 85.
Reaching Different Parts of the Valley
- Central areas: You can get to the middle of the valley by dirt roads. These roads go through the central Growler Mountains. They are about 30 miles (48 kilometers) west of Ajo.
- Southern areas: The southern part of the valley is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of Ajo. This area is also near the northern part of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.
- Northern areas: To reach the northern part of the valley, you can use State Route 85. You will go through the Childs Valley. This route is about 45 miles (72 kilometers) from Ajo.
