Krikor Kaloust Aslanian was born in either Switzerland or Constantinople (now Istanbul), depending on the source. When he was 18, he started his career as a singer, trumpet player, and drummer. He played with a popular dance band in Paris called Ray Ventura et ses Collegiens. Later, he began acting and used the name Coco Aslan. He even performed with the famous guitarist Django Reinhardt.
Acting Career
Grégoire Aslan's first movie role was in 1935, though he wasn't credited for it. His first credited role was in the film Feux de joie in 1939. During World War II, he traveled and performed in South America. He even started his own theater group.
Aslan became a very important actor in many British and American films. He was known for playing characters from different countries. He could act as Russians, Frenchmen, Italians, Germans, and people from the Middle East. He played all these roles very well!
