Grégoire Aslan (born Krikor Kaloust Aslanian) was a famous actor and musician. He was born on March 28, 1908, and passed away on January 8, 1982. Grégoire Aslan was from both Switzerland and Armenia. He became well-known for playing many different types of characters in movies and on TV.
Early Life and Music
Krikor Kaloust Aslanian was born in either Switzerland or Constantinople (now Istanbul), depending on the source. When he was 18, he started his career as a singer, trumpet player, and drummer. He played with a popular dance band in Paris called Ray Ventura et ses Collegiens. Later, he began acting and used the name Coco Aslan. He even performed with the famous guitarist Django Reinhardt.
Acting Career
Grégoire Aslan's first movie role was in 1935, though he wasn't credited for it. His first credited role was in the film Feux de joie in 1939. During World War II, he traveled and performed in South America. He even started his own theater group.
Aslan became a very important actor in many British and American films. He was known for playing characters from different countries. He could act as Russians, Frenchmen, Italians, Germans, and people from the Middle East. He played all these roles very well!

- Duca, a gangster boss, in Joe MacBeth (1955).
- Herod in King of Kings (1961).
- Pothinus in Cleopatra (1963).
- Marcel, a criminal who helps save children, in The Devil at 4 O'Clock (1961). He starred alongside famous actors like Frank Sinatra and Spencer Tracy in this film.
- A police chief in Paris When It Sizzles (1964) and The Return of the Pink Panther (1975).
Grégoire Aslan appeared in over 110 movies and TV shows. He also performed on stage in France for many years, from 1946 to 1981.
Personal Life
From 1948 to 1955, Grégoire Aslan was married to a French theater actress named Denise Noël.
Death
Grégoire Aslan passed away from a heart attack on January 8, 1982. He was visiting Cornwall, England, at the time.
