Guntown is a city in Lee County, Mississippi, United States. It is located in the northern part of the Tupelo micropolitan area, which is a group of nearby cities and towns. Guntown was founded in 1866. In 2020, its population was 2,410 people.

What's in a Name? The Story of Guntown
Guntown gets its name from a man named James G. Gunn. He was a Loyalist from Virginia during the American Revolution. This means he supported the British side. After the war, he found a safe place to live among the Chickasaw people in what is now Lee County. He passed away in 1826.
Guntown's History
Guntown has a long history, especially during the Civil War. During that time, soldiers from the Union army described Guntown as a "station and small village" along the Mobile & Ohio railroad. This railroad was important for moving goods and people.
The city of Guntown was officially started on April 13, 1866. It became an officially recognized city on February 16, 1867.

Guntown is located along Mississippi Highway 145. The older parts of the city are closer to the railroad tracks on the east side. U.S. Route 45 runs through the western part of the city, generally parallel to Highway 145.
To the north of Guntown, you'll find the city of Baldwyn. To the south, you'll find Saltillo.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Guntown covers about 4.5 square miles (12.1 square kilometers) of land. Only a very small part of this area is water.
