History of Hackensack

Hackensack got its name from Hackensack, New Jersey. A post office, where people send and receive mail, has been open in Hackensack since 1888.

Since the 1940s, people in Hackensack have called their town the "Home of Paul Bunyan's Sweetheart Lucette." Paul Bunyan is a famous giant lumberjack from American folklore. A statue of Lucette was first placed in City Park in the 1940s. In 1991, a new, much larger statue of Lucette, made of fiberglass and seventeen feet tall, replaced the old one.
