Haile Thomas (born December 23, 2000) is an amazing young Jamaican-American leader. She is a speaker who travels the world. Haile is also a youth health activist and a vegan food expert. She is the youngest Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach in the United States. Haile is also the founder and CEO of a non-profit group called HAPPY. HAPPY stands for Healthy Active Positive Purposeful Youth.
Early Life and Learning
Haile's parents came from Jamaica. Her mom taught her to cook when she was only five years old. In 2008, Haile's dad was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. This inspired her family to start cooking healthier meals.
In 2009, Haile and her four-year-old sister, Nia, started a YouTube channel. They called it Kids Can Cook. It showed other kids how to make healthy food.
Haile went to St. Gregory College Preparatory School for a while. Later, she was homeschooled. She became the youngest person to graduate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. There, she trained to be a certified integrative nutrition health coach. In 2016, Haile and her family moved from Arizona to New York. This move helped her grow her work and reach more people.
Helping Others Stay Healthy
Haile is a big champion for healthy living. In 2012, she won a special contest. It was for the first White House Kids' State Dinner. This event was hosted by Michelle Obama. It was part of her Let's Move! campaign to encourage kids to be active and eat well. Haile's winning dish was a tasty salad. It had quinoa, black beans, and corn.
The next year, in 2013, Haile introduced Michelle Obama at the Kids' State Dinner. She also joined the First Lady at the 2013 State of the Union Address.
In 2013, Haile started The HAPPY Organization. This group teaches young people about good nutrition. They offer fun cooking classes and summer camps. They also have programs in schools.
Haile has worked with other groups too. In 2016, she teamed up with Harlem Grown. This non-profit teaches about urban farming, sustainability, and healthy eating. She has also been on youth advisory boards. These include the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and ChopChopKids. She was also a Junior Chef Advisor for Hyatt Hotels.
Haile has given many inspiring talks. She has spoken at TEDx events. She also shared her ideas at Deepak Chopra's Sages and Scientists Symposium. Other places include The Clinton Foundation's Health Matters Conference. She also spoke at the Partnership for a Healthier America Summit and the YWCA Women's Leadership Conference.
