Hamilton was started around 1879. It was named after Alexander Hamilton, who was a very important person in early American history. He was the first Secretary of the Treasury, which means he was in charge of the country's money.
The city was once a busy stop and shipping point for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
