Hamlin is a city located in Texas, a state in the United States. It's mostly in Jones County, but a small part extends into Fisher County. In 2020, about 1,831 people lived there. The part of Hamlin in Jones County is also considered part of the larger Abilene, Texas metropolitan area.

History of Hamlin
Hamlin was named after W. H. Hamlin. He was an important official for the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway. The first train arrived in Hamlin in 1906. Soon after, other railroads like the Texas Central Railroad and the Abilene and Southern Railroad also reached the city.
The arrival of the railroads helped Hamlin grow a lot. In 1903, the first gypsum plant in the county was built near Hamlin. Many businesses started, including cotton gins and a cottonseed oil mill. In 1928, oil was discovered, which also boosted the local economy.
The local newspaper, The Hamlin Herald, started in 1906. It is still printed today. In 1948, Hamlin got its first and only hospital, Hamlin Memorial Hospital. It is run by the Hamlin Hospital District and also owns the Hamlin Medical Clinic.
Geography and Location
Hamlin is located in the northwestern part of Jones County. A small section of the city limits reaches west into Fisher County. However, no people lived in that part as of 2010.
The city covers a total area of about 13.7 square kilometers (5.3 square miles). Only a very small part of this area, about 0.03 square kilometers (0.01 square miles), is covered by water.
Main Roads in Hamlin
U.S. Route 83 goes through the center of Hamlin. It is known as Central Avenue in the city. This road leads north about 18 miles to Aspermont. It also goes southeast about 17 miles to Anson, which is the county seat of Jones County. Abilene is about 42 miles to the southeast.
Texas State Highway 92 also crosses through Hamlin. It is called Lake Drive in the city. This highway goes east about 20 miles to Stamford. It also goes west about 20 miles to Rotan.

Education in Hamlin
The city of Hamlin is served by the Hamlin Independent School District. Students in Hamlin attend schools within this district. The local high school is Hamlin High School, and its sports teams are known as the Pied Pipers.

Hamlin has a semiarid climate. This means it is generally dry, but not a desert. It gets some rain, but not a lot. This type of climate is often shown as BSk on climate maps.
