Johann "Hans" Krankl (born on February 14, 1953) is a famous Austrian former football player. He was a very good striker, known for scoring many goals. Many people think he is one of Austria's best players ever.

Playing for Clubs
Hans Krankl started his professional football journey at Rapid Wien. He played there for eight years. For one year, he also played for Wiener AC.
In 1978, while at Rapid Wien, he won the European Golden Shoe. This award goes to the top goalscorer in European leagues. His amazing goal-scoring caught the eye of Barcelona, a big club in Spain.
His time at Barcelona was very successful. He helped them win the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1979. He even scored a goal in the final match! That season, he was also the top goalscorer in Spain's top league, La Liga, with 29 goals.
In 1981, he returned to Rapid Wien. He became the team captain and scored over 100 more goals for them in the next five years. He was a key player in Rapid's most successful period in the 1980s. They won the Austrian League title twice, in 1982 and 1983. They also won the Austrian Cup three times in a row. In 1985, he scored Rapid's only goal in the European Cup Winners' Cup Final against Everton.
After leaving Rapid Wien, he became a player-manager at Wiener Sport-Club in 1986. Hans Krankl was named Austrian Player of the Year five times. This is a record! He was also voted the most popular Austrian player of the last 25 years.
Playing for Austria
Krankl played his first game for the Austrian national team in June 1973 against Brazil. He played in two World Cups: in 1978 and 1982. He played 69 games for Austria and scored 34 goals. His last international game was in April 1985 against Hungary.
In 1977, Krankl scored six goals in one match against Malta. Austria won that game 9–0!
One of his biggest achievements was helping Austria qualify for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. It was the first time Austria had made it to the World Cup in 20 years. In that tournament, he scored the winning goal against West Germany. This game is known as The miracle of Córdoba because Austria won 3–2. It was Austria's first win against West Germany in 47 years! This goal made Krankl a legend in Austria. The video of his goal, scored in the 88th minute, is still shown on TV. The excited audio commentary is instantly recognized by Austrian football fans.
Becoming a Manager
After he stopped playing football at Austria Salzburg in 1989, Krankl became a football manager and coach. He coached the Austrian national team from 2002 to 2005. He also managed LASK Linz.
Sometimes, he appears on Austrian TV as a guest or a football commentator.
Musical Talent
Hans Krankl is also a singer! He has released several songs that became popular in Austria. His most famous song is "Lonely Boy," which came out in 1985 and reached number 2 on the Austrian music charts.
