Johannes Christian "Hans" Pflügler (born on March 27, 1960) is a German former professional footballer. He was a versatile player, able to play as a left-back or a central defender. Hans Pflügler played his entire professional career for one club, Bayern Munich. He won many important titles with them. He played in almost 400 official games for the club.

Pflügler also played for the West Germany national team. He was part of the team that won the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He also played in the European Championship in 1988.

Hans Pflügler's Club Career

Hans Pflügler was born in Freising, Germany. He started his professional football journey in the 1981–82 season. His first and only club was his local team, FC Bayern Munich. In his very first season, he was a substitute in the European Cup Final.

Becoming a Key Player at Bayern

After two seasons where he was still finding his place, Pflügler became a regular starter. From 1983 to 1988, he scored 27 goals in the Bundesliga. This is the top football league in Germany. In the 1986–87 season, he played every minute of every game in the 1986–87 European Cup. His team, Bayern Munich, finished second in that competition. They lost to FC Porto in the final.

Winning Titles and Later Career

Hans Pflügler helped Bayern Munich win five league titles. They also won the German Cup (called the DFB-Pokal) three times. By the 1991–92 season, he played in only 14 games. After this, he decided to retire from professional football.

However, in 1995, many players on the Bayern team got injured. The manager, Giovanni Trapattoni, asked Pflügler to come back and play. He agreed and played one game on April 8 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He even received a yellow card in that match. Even more surprisingly, he played for the Bayern Munich B team in the 2001–02 season. He was 42 years old at the time. He helped the B team finish tenth in their league.

Hans Pflügler's International Career

Hans Pflügler played 11 games for the German national team. These games are called "caps." His first game was on March 25, 1987. It was a friendly match against Israel. He was then chosen to be part of the squad for the European Championship in 1988.

World Cup Victory in 1990

Pflügler was also selected for the 1990 FIFA World Cup squad. He was a backup player for Andreas Brehme. He played one full game (90 minutes) in the group stage. This was against Colombia, and the game ended in a 1–1 draw. West Germany went on to win the World Cup that year.

Hans Pflügler's Life Outside Football

Hans Pflügler is a qualified engineer. He also worked in the merchandising departments at Bayern Munich. This means he helped with selling team products. He was involved in this work even before he returned to play football in 1995.

Pflügler also ran a guesthouse, called Pension Pflügler. It was located in his hometown of Freising.
