A Look at Haswell's Past
Haswell was started around 1905 or 1908. It grew up near a Missouri Pacific Railroad section house. These houses were built along the railroad line in eastern Colorado. They were named in alphabetical order after important men.
The railroad line was built in 1888. Helen, the daughter of a rich railroad owner named Jay Gould, helped name these places. Haswell officially became a town in 1920.
Where is Haswell Located?
Haswell is found in the western part of Kiowa County. You can find it at these coordinates: 38°27′6″N 103°9′47″W / 38.45167°N 103.16306°W. Colorado State Highway 96 goes right through the town.
If you drive east on Highway 96, you'll reach Eads, the county seat, about 22 miles away. If you head southwest, you'll get to Ordway in about 38 miles.
According to the 2020 United States Census, the town covers an area of about 2.079 square kilometers (0.803 square miles). All of this area is land.

About 5 miles south of Haswell, you'll find the Paul Plishner Radio Astronomy and Space Sciences Center. This area is very quiet, which is perfect for listening to signals from space. The center has a large 60-foot dish antenna. Scientists use this antenna to study radio waves from space.
Intel Microchip Named After Haswell
In 2013, a big computer company called Intel decided to name one of its new computer processors after the town. This new processor was called Haswell.
