Hawkshaw is a small village located in Greater Manchester, England. It is part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury. In the past, it was part of Lancashire. Around 1,000 people call Hawkshaw home. Exploring Hawkshaw Village

Hawkshaw is a quiet place with a strong community feel. It offers a mix of village life and natural beauty.

Getting Around Hawkshaw

The main road that goes through Hawkshaw is the A676 road. If you are traveling west from Greenmount, the road changes its name. It goes from Bolton Road to Ramsbottom Road after it crosses a small stream called Kirklees Brook.

Learning and Faith in Hawkshaw

The village has its own school, St Mary's Church of England Primary School. About 100 students attend this school. Six teachers work there to help the children learn and grow. The school is also connected to St Mary's Church. This church is part of the Church of England.

Fun at the Rec

Hawkshaw has a large playing field that locals call "the rec." It's a great place for outdoor activities.

  • There is a big football pitch, though it is not currently used for games.
  • The children's play area has lots of equipment. You can find swings for both adults and toddlers.
  • There is also a large slide, fun rocking chairs, a roundabout, and a see-saw.
  • A low fence surrounds the park, keeping it safe.
  • At one end of "the rec" is a large tennis club. It has a clubhouse and five tennis courts. Three of these courts have flood-lights, so you can play even when it's dark!

Training and Ranges

Hawkshaw is home to an Army Training Camp. This camp is the main headquarters for the Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force. Next to the camp are the Holcombe Ranges. This is one of the largest shooting ranges in the United Kingdom. The famous TV show The Krypton Factor once filmed a part of its physical challenge here. They used the assault course on Holcombe Moor, which is just north of Hawkshaw.
