Fun at the Rec
Hawkshaw has a large playing field that locals call "the rec." It's a great place for outdoor activities.
- There is a big football pitch, though it is not currently used for games.
- The children's play area has lots of equipment. You can find swings for both adults and toddlers.
- There is also a large slide, fun rocking chairs, a roundabout, and a see-saw.
- A low fence surrounds the park, keeping it safe.
- At one end of "the rec" is a large tennis club. It has a clubhouse and five tennis courts. Three of these courts have flood-lights, so you can play even when it's dark!
Training and Ranges
Hawkshaw is home to an Army Training Camp. This camp is the main headquarters for the Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force. Next to the camp are the Holcombe Ranges. This is one of the largest shooting ranges in the United Kingdom. The famous TV show The Krypton Factor once filmed a part of its physical challenge here. They used the assault course on Holcombe Moor, which is just north of Hawkshaw.
